I totally agree with Jay, Murli has provided a nice writeup to overcome with the scenario mentally. But, i think the main problem and which shows instant affect is Financial crisis.

Dear Murlidharan, It is heartening to see someone talking positively about this issue amongst a host of media and tv reports and doomsday articles by various writers. I completely agree with you when you say it is an opportunity to reinvent yourself and re energise to look at opportunities around. I know quite a few guys who have been laid off and the only worry each of them has is finance. Bills that need to be paid, insurance policy premuims, loan repayments and for many even rent etc. I think this is where your article falls short on how does one plan for the financial hit.

Tony,

Your post doesn't open. Would it be possible to send the writeup over to me by mail? My id: askez@yahoo.com

Muralidharan,

This article is perfectly timed. I know you're basing it on the news of the economy, but I was one of the several thousand affected in the past three months. May I shamelessly plug my own post from my personal experience of losing a job: http://tonychung.ca/2008/11/how-you-leave-is-how-you-will-enter/

For me, the pink slip and the two-week notice both trigger the same emotions, and both offer a nosedive into the unknown. Fortunately for me I trust in someone greater looking out for my well-being, and He hasn't let me down yet.

I'm back to working on contract, and am picking up a lot of different types of related work. I like being able to walk confidently into a place, demonstrate competency, produce effective results, and get paid. I'm not sure I want to merely trade time for dollars anymore.

For me, I've become all about the impact.
