Kelly,

Was that the only part in the article that merited your attention ?

I said quality can 'compensate' where quantity is lacking, I didn't say it can 'replace'.

If your 3 children 'never' get to see their father, how do they know he is a 'wonderful' father ? Because of quality, in spite of less quantity. Children always ' know' if and how much their parents love them, even though time spent with them can really never be 'enough', because who can love enough !

Caring and loving are never too constrained by time and space, although this is not to say that you do not need to express them.

I have been a family man and worked hard in sales and marketing upto high levels, never had 'enough' time for family, but I cared to have quality, and today my sons say they have had the best father they could wish.

I had no intention to argue - we are all free to think and act as we will, but I thought I would care to clarify.

Hope this helped. Take care. Cheers,

"Nor is this balance about distributing hours...The key is, where quantity is lacking, quality can surely compensate."

This is ridiculous. Tell this to my 3 young children who never see their wonderful father. He loves his family and he loves his job, but his job demands everything. Quality is meaningless when quantity is too scarce.

Maybe if you have no family, no children at home, then balance is about being anchored in your inner blah blah blah. But for real families, balance is about children with healthy self-esteem, marriages that are genuinely happy, families that succeed. Leaders and organizations that realize this will keep their best employees, and those who don't, won't, as my husband will be leaving his work in search of more balance later this year.
