I did love the film...watching it on flight while on my way back to the Philippines, where I live, from Sydney. I don't know much about India...and I didn't even consider this while I was viewing the film. For me, it was all about life...the perseverance of a person, his patience and the will to achieve his dreams...it was all about love, love for oneself and for other people...it's all about life is what you make it and what life will give you in return. I think its more than India...its all about us, humans, regardless of nationality, how we live, how we think, our dreams, our goals, its all about a person's attitude to achieve happiness, which all of us deserve to have. The film did talk to me...a lot has been learned and I can say, it was one of the simplest films ever but one of the best I've ever seen. :P

There is absolutely nothing in this film to take away.An overhyped documentary is the right category it fits in.It tries to create a realistic picture with a fictional storyline. Some of the scenes are depicated in such a manner that it creates an image of india as slums. Some scenes are of very raw and of bad taste.Except AR Rahmen's music this movie is utterly disaster.I still dont understand why the western countries like to see india as a kind of slum, snake charmers.

Reponding to Rahul's comment
While becoming a millionaire overnight is perhaps impossible, the film in depicting this cannot be labled as 'flawed'. This kind of an ending instils hope among the downtrodden children of a lesser God, who can endure today dreaming about a better tomorrow. Even they know to take it in with a pinch of salt (and some raw green chillies :) )

Nice post and great observations. J.K Rowling of Harry Potter fame is also an example for instant fame from nowhere. Can she also be classified as a S D millionaire, i wonder?
People have to identify the right industry at the right time. Some people identify it late (late bloomers). Some idenify it at a very early stage.
There are stories of instant success of families or individuals. They achieve it by just attaching to an existing millionaire. But they need to put up with the quirks of the millionaire though. :D

Slumdog shows an easy way to become rich. This cannot be a route to acquire wealth for the vast population. There are no shortcuts to become millionares. Instead hard work which is the need of the hour for countries like India should be the focus. It is wrong to show an easy path to acquire wealth and boost consumption. All slumdogs cannot be made millionares overnight. This is the real flaw of this film.
