This solid primer on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence theory and its applications for teachers and trainers covers an impressive amount of material. As the American teaching cliche goes, "we need to be more guide on the side than sage on the stage."

Yet many classical principles of teaching and education remain essential in our hi-tech, low touch era. As Aristotle noted so ago, "education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity."

Very informative article and so very true. Especially for me since I have just embarked on a new career - visiting faculty for students specializing in human resources ... Following the diktats that you have stated have resulted in very interested students. Another important factor is leaving lines of communication open even after your workshop / session is completed.

Thanks for this interesting and thought-provoking article. Your "concluding remarks" are particularly insightful. I have often seen training sessions where the trainer is so focused ("obsessed") with content and process that she forgets to ensure that the learner is actually LEARNING from everything that's being thrown at him. Sad to say, many training programs are still geared more towards some types of intelligence (while disregarding others) so some participants learn more than others.

Interested in this subject? Become a member of the group Accelerated Learning on LinkedIn. This group aims at sharing knowledge on how we can make learning more effective and easier by using recent knowledge on how the brain works. Concepts like spatial intelligence, music intelligence and bodily kinesthetic intelligence are all part of this.
