When Does The Idea Fairy Like To Visit You?

Richard Bach, author of the metaphysical classics, Jonathon Livingston Seagull and Bridge Across Forever, noticed that the Idea Fairy came to him when he was gardening, or flying in a plane. That’s when he would get his story line ideas and life solutions.
Call it what you want: the zone, the flow, the magical gap, the illuminating silence….there is a place in space and time where we tend to think and feel most clearly. And in that place, aha’s, creative genius, strategies, and revelations tend to flow our way.
Notice when and where the Idea Fairy likes to visit you.
Notice how solutions enter your being.
Maybe it’s when you’re talking to a particular friend or associate (interaction). When you’re cruising down the highway or walking to work (movement). Or in the bathtub or washing the dishes (water). Some people’s Idea Fairies like to show up after a good meal or great sex, first thing in the morning, or just as they’re drifting off to sleep.
The Idea Fairy can be slightly unpredictable. She won’t always show up when you’re in the zone. But she really appreciates being invited.

Best ideas come to me when I am in shower or driving. Usually when I have no paper and hopefully can remember. The idea fairy has also been known to strike when I take the time to listen rather than try and think of what I am going to say.
Great article. I realized about two months ago, that I can fairly predict that the idea fairy will come when I am jogging. I try to use this quite often and it works.
Wonderful article Danielle. The idea fairy comes to me when I am present to my experience in a friendly curious manner. One thing leads to another and it is quite the dance. It helps to leave out a little fairy food: appreciation, giggles, silliness and a sense of childlike wonder and amazement. Thank you. Nick
The idea fairy visits me after exercising. My head is clear but collected and I am energized. So important to take that me time, whatever it is, and self reflect.
When the idea fairy visits, have a pen nearby. Sometimes it is hard to remember exactly what happens when you are in the zone.
Right on Margaret, my shower is my best zone to create, to negotiate ideas, to solve problems, to write headlines. When asked for an idea, I often tell clients “time to go take a shower…” Always gets a double take. Driving and flying also work, and even just a silent time in the morning – no phones, no radio, no disruptions.
I always carry a pocket spiral notebook and pen – everywhere – and into the bathroom where I sometimes need to step out and really write down great thoughtware. Stop the car, I want to write down – this morning I realized I need a software that records a conversation to myself – like a SKYPE call to myself – show ‘n tell style from my laptop.
Any help there? Wanna go take a shower Danielle? Great topic, thanks, rk
I liked this article. I think, idea generation requires stillness of mind as well as agitation– stillness that removes the noises *^ and distracting frequencies and agitation that generates the forward drive to propel your mind in newer directions. These ‘special moments’ whether running or driving or taking a shower may help achieve exactly these conditions and can be cultivated by individuals. ‘Special moments’ may also happen as a result of external stimuli– such as a tight deadline.
I remember one instance, taking a break during work hours for a short run– off with tie et al, into my track suit and back to tie and work in an hour– to sort a particularly knotty issue. I recommend this (or whatever it is that works for you).
*^ The ‘noise’ that blocks you may be physical or even hormonal.
